This Issue’s Cover Story...

“WHY DO I FEEL LIKE I NEED A NAP AFTER LUNCH?

”You came to work in the morning, finishing off your bagel and cream cheese from breakfast feeling energized and productive. Then, about 2 hours later, you went to grab a cup of coffee to keep that energy going. And everything went great. Lunchtime came and you stopped to get a sandwich, fries, and a coke. But then, an hour or so after lunch, you seemed to hit a wall, and now you can hardly keep your eyes open. You think to yourself “Oh, if I could just lay down for about 20 minutes..”. What is going on? Well, it may be a blood sugar imbalance issue, and here’s how..

3) Hypoglycemia Image:  Blood sugar roller coaster is becoming more dramatic.
At this stage, your body is no longer able to keep blood sugar within its healthy range. After a high-carbohydrate breakfast, blood sugar rises quickly, but then drops too low as your body keeps reacting to the influx of dietary sugar and is beginning to over-compensate. By lunchtime you may feel fatigued, shaky, irritable, anxious, or crave sweets and another cup of coffee just to keep going.

If this is not corrected...

4) Hyperglycemia Image:
As you can see, blood sugar levels are wildly out of control. At this stage, one may be experiencing a myriad of symptoms from dizziness, erratic mood swings, vision problems, or insomnia.
The encouraging news is that this stage often responds very well to improved nutrition and lifestyle changes before more serious problems develop.

If this is not corrected…

5) Diabetes Image:
At this stage, note that fasting blood sugar is already elevated upon waking and stays high throughout the day. The body in this state can no longer regulate blood sugar and blood sugar dips can be dangerous. Over time, consistently high blood sugar can affect the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and circulation, even with medication.

The good news is that it's never too late to begin making healthier choices. Whether your goal is prevention or better blood sugar control, every positive change you make today is an investment in your future health.

What Can You Do Today?

If you regularly experience:
∙Afternoon fatigue  ∙Sugar cravings  ∙Feeling shaky between meals  ∙Brain fog  ∙Irritability when you’re hungry  ∙Needing coffee just to get through the day  ∙Waking up at 3am, not being able to get back to sleep…

These may be signs that your body is struggling to maintain healthy blood sugar balance.
The sooner you recognize these signals, the sooner you can begin supporting your body's natural ability to restore balance.

Your body is remarkably designed to move toward health when it is given the right building blocks.
